Practical assignment: parallel and contrapuntal sound video
My video explores how social media is not always real and how people can portray themselves differently online. It focuses on beauty standards and the pressure to look perfect, showing how expectations can be different from reality. Someone might seem happy, confident and popular on social media, but this does not mean they are always happy or never feel lonely. My video shows how people only share certain parts of their lives online, which can create an unrealistic image of who they really are. It reminds the audience that you never truly know what someone is going through just by looking at their social media.
Thinking behind work
- I wanted my video to show that social media does not always reflect real life.
- I thought about how people feel pressured to look perfect because of beauty standards and expectations online.
- I wanted to show the difference between how someone presents themselves online and what their life might actually be like.
- I decided to show someone who looks happy, confident and popular on social media, but might actually be lonely despite appearing to have lots of friends online.
- I also wanted to show how having lots of likes and followers does not always mean someone is genuinely happy.
- I chose to use parallel sound at the beginning to match the happy images, then contrapuntal sound to create a contrast between the music and the more serious images.
- My main aim was to make the audience question what they see on social media and remember that people do not always show their real lives online.
